Model of Fast Pyrolysis of a Small Volume-Fraction of Biomass Within a Gas of Transient Temperature and Pressure

چکیده
A simple model and results for the decomposition of pulverized cellulosic biomass within a non-oxidizing gas of transient temperature and pressure is presented. This model is used to predict the performance of a novel thermo-chemical biomass conversion scheme termed the reciprocating biomass conversion reactor (RBCR). Calculations indicate that complete thermo-chemical conversion can be completed within the compression and expansion strokes of a repurposed 4-stroke motor. Approximately 70% (by weight) of the bio-products are in the form of bio-oil. The performance of the RBCR is predicted to be favorable when compared to the state of the art, which is considered to be the fluidizied bed reactor (FBR). The biomass feedrate is increased by ≈ 100%, and the energy required for conversion to bio-oil is reduced by ≈ 50%.

Joule-Thomson cooling systems are used in refrigeration processes such as cryogenic gas liquefaction. Although extensive studies have been carried out by researchers, most of them include cryogenic heat exchangers and their associated fields. In the current study, an attempt was made to indicate the effect of using inappropriate operational conditions in a cryogenic Joule-Thomson cooling system...

Designing drilling fluids for drilling in deep gas reservoirs and geothermal wells is a major challenge. Cooling drilling fluids and preparing stable mud with high thermal conductivity are of great concern. Drilling nanofluids, i.e. a low fraction of carbon nanotube (CNT) well dispersed in mud, may enhance the mixture thermal conductivity compared to the base fluids. Thus, they are potentially ...
متن کاملAn Investigation of Wood-Plastic Novolac Modified by Biomass Pyrolysis Oils
The possibility of using water insoluble fraction from biomass pyrolysis oil as additive in synthesis of Wood-Plastic novolac has been proved by using Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) and Fourier Transformed Infra Red (FT-IR) spectroscopy. Synthesis of novolac with different concentrations (10, 20 and 30 wt %) of water insoluble fraction were performed. It was found that mechanical p...

Kinetics-free equilibrium models can predict the exit gas composition of the biomass gasifier, given the solid composition and the equilibrium temperature, but they cannot be used for reactor design. Hence, there is a need to develop a combined transport and kinetic model which takes into account of the kinetics of homogeneous and heterogeneous chemical reactions, transport of volatiles produce...
